README for Outertech Translator Utility
=================================================================
download: http://www.outertech.de/files/ottranslator.zip
Every translator gets a free licenses to all our products.
This is also the case if you update and improve an
outdated translation.
Translation standards.
Please keep in mind that it's not enough to speak a language in
order to translate, you have to know the computer terms of the
language perfectly. Example: Translating "Indexing" to German
could result in "Indexierung", but it would be wrong, it has
to be "Indexdienst", because Microsoft translated it this way
in the German Windows version.
What to do before translating?
First check whether the translation of the language is already
available. If so, check if it is outdated. Is this the case,
you can update it and still get a free license.
How to translate?
1. If you have used the OT Translator for another product already,
delete OTTranslator.ini first. This will allow you to select a
new English.olf file.
2. Start OTTranslator.exe.
3. Select English.olf from one of the product folders,
for example Cacheman\English.olf.
4a. Check if an outdated language file (e.g. Spanish.olf) exists
and load it.
4b. If it does not exist, click "File/Save as" and enter a
filename (e.g. French.olf).
5. Enter the language ID for you language (see the end of this
readme for more info).
6. Translate the text in the Source Language column to the
Destination Language column.
White lines = empty or need to be looked at, because the
English text has changed due to an update.
Blue lines = already translated.
If you edit a white line, it becomes blue.
7. Save the file.
8. Copy the saved file to Language folder of the product in
order to test it. Simply start the program (e.g. Cacheman) and
your translation will be immediately visible.
Send the file to us (translations@outertech.com).
FAQ:
Q: What is the English.notes file in StartEd's folder?
Unlike all other Outertech programs StartEd has 2 language file.
The usual one (English.olf, German.olf etc) and an additional text
file called "English.notes". In order to translate this file simply
load it to notepad, or any other text editor. Translate to your language
and save as e.g. "Spanish.notes). Send us this file along the normal
translation file (in this case Spanish.olf).
Q: What do I get for translating?
You'll get free licenses of all our current and future products.
Q: What is the Language ID?
It's used to detect the users default system language and
start the software automatically with this language.
Please keep in mind that many languages have multiple IDs,
separate them with commas
